I really enjoyed listening to you read. Particularly “we wandered like five headless chickens bouncing around town.” 😆🤍

I feel so sad that it was so disappointing. I'm Texan (originally) and was spoiled. If you make it to the Austin area there are many places for BBQ, but also Soul Food (should you want). Hoovers is one of many places: https://www.hooverscooking.com/

OK even as a vegetarian you made me crave brisket! Thankfully yours turned out subpar so I could turn down the volume on my growly gut!

You are a very talented writer and storyteller. Thank you. My computer stopped playing the audio, and I kept reading, wanting to also keep hearing your voice and interpretation.

Thank you. Love the format, and your unique way of expressing an outing to a restaurant with friends.

This is a cool mashup of writing and audio--it's like getting a personal audiobook from the author. (I also agree with you about brisket. Maybe it's because I haven't had it in Texas yet, either. 😆)

haha thanks Evelyn! One of my readers suggested this format for this series, and i've only done a couple but people seem to enjoy it. Haha since I published this, more brisket deniers have come out of the closet, i wonder if it's because we all didn't grow up in Kansas/Texas?

Lovely. Romanian butchers don’t traditionally cut brisket. I once saw “beef brisket” on the menu of a U.S. inspired grill restaurant and tried it, knowing from videos what American brisket was supposed to look like. It was…nothing of the sort. Just plain old beef, like you’d put in a beef stew. Total disappointment.

A home cook friend told me he has a butcher shop he frequents where he sometimes asks for custom cuts, and he’s had brisket cut for him, but I haven’t had the chance to eat it.

Let us know if you do try Texas briskets!

haha yeah I didn't want to come across as a total hater, given barbecue is serious business for people, but it's been underwhelming everytime. Maybe my framing is wrong? I wonder if I'm expecting it to be something it's not? Does your friend enjoy his brisket?

I think so, since he keeps buying it. He’s a huge beef nerd.
