thank you Noha! I LOVED your piece about Salah. I'm Nigerian and I always bristle when people struggle to pronounce the simplest, even three-letter Nigerian names like "Ayo" so I laughed out loud when you said "You can't just be Abdul. Servant of what??"
haha I could tell! but maybe that happened so you'd write that beautiful piece?
okay to give them credit, it's their pronunciation of "Ayo" that irks me, because in Nigeria, we pronounce it roughly as "Ah-yuh" (with a short, soft vowel kinda like the "uh" in "cup"), but over here, people end up saying "Ah-yooooo" with the drawn out exaggerated tone; it bothers me because "Ayo" means joy and it kills my joy when they dont try for a three lettered name
So sorry about your fractured ankle, resulting in limited "hops". I broke my left leg, tibial fx, over 4 years ago and would never want to go through that pain and immobility again. Take heart, you will recover! I enjoy your writings!
Thank you Karen. Ooof your injury sounds really difficult. Sorry to hear that. I just had a follow up from my doctor and it turns out it's actually not broken, just another in the line of severe sprains on the same ankle. Ankle brace + PT for the next six weeks 😅
🤗🤗🤗
Oh man, I can just FEEL the aching burn at the end of the day as I read this! Sending you all the healing vibes!!
thanks! Had a follow up check-in with doctor, turns out I didn't fracture it, but sprained to so crutches are gone, and I'm healing well!
Woop!! Such a relief!
This was riveting

Very relatable
Awwww thank you, Tobi! It’s been a point of annoyance for me for years.
And seriously, Ayo? How is that so hard to say. Three letters!!
