As a true crime fanatic, I gobbled this one up!! I’m glad you’re all ok and that it made out for a riveting tale instead of a traumatic one. (But yes, trust us true crime freaks! We have a sixth sense about this stuff!!)

hahaha I have learned so! my former roommate has infinite rights to scream "I told you so" in my face. which are fair tbh given her instincts kept us safe

While reading this I expected the punchline to be a raccoon or possum on your roof. I thought I had a home invasion that ended up being a summer-long battle with a raccoon in my attic. Your situation was much scarier!! Glad it turned out ok.

hahaha yeah a raccoon would've been funnier! thankfully, we were unharmed. but I'm curious...how did you find out it was a raccoon lol did someone go up there?

I assumed it was a nocturnal animal. I called a pest control specialist, and he suspected raccoon based on the pattern. It was also outsmarting all of us.

After weeks of being woken up around 5:30am by a racket in the attic and hearing dusk shuffling, my roommate heard something in the furnace/AC closet. This closet was open to the attic. She opened the door and saw its little face peering at her. To avoid a raccoon chase in the house, she promptly slammed it shut.

Eventually the pest control guy somehow sealed it in, and then there was a bad smell for a while... We never found the skeleton!

This was in 2019. Last fall another one started peeling shingles off the roof and made a hole to get in.

Loool "we never found the skeleton". Sounds like an epic summer tale but being woken up that early does not sound fun at all. So glad you got to the bottom of it even if tragic for the little guy
